Delete your account
SOMTELOS app and webSOMTELOS is operated by SOMFIN PRIVATE LIMITED. This page explains how to delete your SOMTELOS account, what is deleted and when, and the little we must keep.
Delete in the app or on the web
The quickest way, if you can still sign in. It works in any browser, so you don’t need the app installed.
- Sign in at app.somtelos.com/account.
- In the Danger zone, ask for a deletion code. We email it to your account’s address; it is valid for 10 minutes.
- Enter the code, confirm as the page asks, and choose Delete my account permanently. You are signed out and your account is deleted.
Can’t sign in? Email us
Write to admin@thesomfin.com from the email address on your SOMTELOS account, with the subject Delete my account. We reply to that address to confirm the request is yours, and we delete the account within 7 days of your confirmation. We never ask for your password.
Before you start
- Last admin of a shared workspace? Make someone else an admin first, so your organisation isn’t left without one. Until then, deletion is refused.
- A chartered accountant with active client assignments? Revoke them first; your clients’ reviews must not be left without a reviewer. Until then, deletion is refused.
- Paying for a plan? Cancel it under Billing first, so it stops renewing. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription by itself.
What happens, and when
Immediately. Your sign-in is deleted, your access to every workspace is removed, and your email address is free to use again. Your personal vault, the encrypted backup the app keeps for you, is erased at once, every version of it.
Within 31 days. Everything else stored under your account is permanently deleted: your profile, grants, vesting, share lots, sales, salary statements, foreign assets, goals, tax computations, filing packages and the documents you uploaded. We hold it for 30 days first, so that a deletion made by mistake, or by someone else using your account, can be looked into. Our nightly deletion run then removes it.
Backups. Our encrypted database backups keep a rolling 35 days, and earlier copies of uploaded documents are kept for 90 days. They exist only to recover from a disaster, and are erased automatically when those periods end.
What we keep, and why
- An organisation’s own records. If you were part of an organisation’s workspace, its audit log of what happened there remains part of that organisation’s records, and messages you posted in its shared threads may remain there too.
- Tax invoices. If you paid for a plan, the GST invoices and payment records are kept for 72 months from the due date of the annual return for that year, as the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 requires.
- A chartered accountant’s working papers. If a chartered accountant reviewed your return through SOMTELOS, the working papers they are professionally required to keep stay with their practice for the period their professional standards require.
- Payment processor records. Razorpay, which processes card and UPI payments, keeps its own records under its own legal obligations.
Our Privacy Policy sets out your other rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
